MATCH REPORT : RED 31st October 2009

Buckston P4 10-10 Sciennes P4 RED

Where do you start?  Ok, I'll start at the finish.  10-10.  Ten-Ten.  Correct, we scored ten goals away from home but we didn't win!

An experimental Red team found their way to the Buckstone pitches on a wonderfully bright and sunny Autumn morning.  So many questions.  Could the Red team cope without Danny and Struan?  Could the new coaching team remember the players names, figure out a formation and make sure that the right number of players were on the pitch at all times?  Could the Red squad even find the pitches inside the Buckstone maze?  Yes, yes, yes, yes and eventually!

So to the match.  The squad looked good in the warm up and appeared to have their shooting boots on!  Within a few minutes of the game starting Ali had fired Reds into a 2-0 lead, following an excellent pass from Kjartan for the first and Eyvindur for the second. 0-2 Sciennes.

The details are a little light but Buckstone then scored 2 and made it 2-2.

A fantastic cross-shot from Kjartan was fired home from Ali who was having the game of his life. 2-3 Sciennes, hatrick from Ali.

The details are a little light but Buckstone then scored to make it 3-3.

Kjartan, who was having a magnificent game in midfield, then set off on an amazing solo run and smashed a shot from distance into the roof of the net.  At last someone other than Ali had scored and we were back in the lead.  3-4 Sciennes.

Guess what happened next?  4-4.

Eyvindur then cooly slotted the ball past the tired Buckstone keeper. 4-5 Sciennes.

Guess what happened next? 5-5.

Then Sciennes had another of their genuine stramashes that resulted in Kjartan prodding the ball over the line and into the net.  5-6 Sciennes.  The ref blew for half-time and went off for a lie down in a dark room!

Within a few minutes of the restart a shock...6-6.

Then the game turned a little.  First Eyvindur fired home from a tight angle, then did it again and then Ali (remember him from the first half?) scored again.  6-9 Sciennes.  Some daylight, perhaps the coaching team could do something to tighten things up a little at the back?  Perhaps they had some masterstroke tactical ploy to see out the game?  They did.  They decided to go for it and get more goals!  Before you could say "Uh-oh" it was 9-9.

Kjartan, inspired by something he once saw on the telly, then scored from his own half!  I say it like I see that sort of thing every other day but you have to remember the Kjartan supports the greatest team in the world and we kind of expect that sort of thing!  ;o) 9-10 Sciennes.

The day would not have been complete without a final equaliser - with the referee about to blow his whistle Buckstone scored to make it 10-10.  Phew.

A word or two about the players in the Red team this week...

Ali - great goalmouth poaching, pounced on loose balls and turned them in.  A real striker and a great goalie!  Last week 2 goals, this week 3, next week 4?

Jack - a brilliantly cool defender, keeps the ball well and always looks for a great pass.  Unbelievably good in goals and really kept Sciennes in the game as Buckstone camped in the Sciennes half.

Ollie - very brave to start in goals and kept a clean sheet for a long time before being beaten with a lucky shot.  Made some excellent saves before moving into defence where he was outstanding.  Ollie doesn't give up!

Eyvindur - fantasic in defence once again! Who said he was a forward?  Great dribbling skills, excellent shots and passing is improving every single week!

Sasha - fantastic in defence with an eye for danger and a really strong tackle.  Played through the pain barrier in the second half!  Fantastic performance.

Alex A - debut for the Red team and took a while to get used to the pace of the game.  Found a really good position in the middle of midfield and his forceful runs became a highlight of the day.  Set up some great chances towards the end.  An excellent debut.

Hector - just when you think he can't get any better he does!  Hector was once again quite outstanding.  The most improved player of the year.  Defensive midfield player, attacking midfield player, defender, striker and goalie all in one package.  A key member of the red squad!

Kjartan - an outstanding performance in midfield.  Great decision making, superb forward runs and fantastic range of passing - Alonzo and Gerrard rolled into one!  Encouraged his team and dragged them back into the lead when things looked to be going against them.  Set up a number of goals and created some for himself as well.

(Sorrry we had no photographer at the game!)
