Sciennes FC P5 2010-2011: MATCH REPORT : BLUE 14th November

BLUE 8 - 5 SOUTH MORNINGSIDE CITY

Huge local derby match on 14th November as BLUE took on the mighty South Morningside City at the Meadows. Sciennes record against SM was not good, could this be the day when we finally get a victory? Angus takes up the story...

On a very wet and muddy pitch, South Morningside (SM) were first to open the scoring but Blues struck back quickly when Alex made a strong run down the left wing and scored with a powerful shot (1-1).

SM pressed hard and forced Coll to make a couple of excellent saves before their pressure lead to another SM goal. Blues responded by some great play before Sam, running from midfield hit a perfectly weighted pass that Hamish ran on to and tucked into the corner of the SM goal (2-2).

Despite some staunch defending by Roddy and Robert, SM regained the lead with a well worked goal. Not to be outdone, Blues midfield responded with skilful work by Jude, Joseph and Murdo that lead to another Blues goal. An injury to Alex meant some changes but Blues continued to hold out to Half time (3-3).

For the start of the second half, Robert replaced Coll in goal who moved to defence with Sam, Roddy and Joseph. The game continued to ebb and flow before Murdo broke the deadlock with a cracking goal into the top corner. Robert was making some great saves but a mix up in the Blues defence left him unsighted and unable to stop the ball going into the back of the net (4-4).

Alex continued to cause SM all sorts of problems on the left wing and scored again to make it 5-4 putting the blues in the lead for the first time. SM responded immediately and managed to pull it back level (5-5).

The Blues maintained their composure and Alex scored again (Hat – trick!) with less than 5 minutes to go (6-5). Jude and Murdo kept the pressure on SM and set up Joseph who turned and blasted it into the goal (7-5).

In the last move of the game, Alex stretched the SM defence down the left and crossed the ball into the SM box to find Hamish who pounced and fired the ball into the back of the net from close range (Final Score 8-5).
